Act 21: Happy Birthday

Birthdays are something that most people get very excited and happy about. Usually when it is someone’s birthday and people know it, they say “happy birthday”, of course. I feel that a simple “happy birthday” means a lot to someone when they hardly know the person. I feel as if it is taken more to heart and really makes the birthday boy or girl feel happy. Today, it was a kid’s birthday and I found out while I was in class with him. He seemed very excited that it was his birthday. I have never really talk to this specific kid before. We were waiting for the bell to ring and he was standing behind me. I was planning on saying “happy birthday”, and this was the perfect time. I turned around and said “happy birthday” to him! He looked like he really appreciated it. It felt good to put a smile on the face of someone I really didn’t know!

Act 20: Paper Pick Up

After basketball, I usually wait a while for my ride. Sometimes I go into the weight room to talk to people and Mr. Carll while I wait. I was walking from the weight room to check if my ride was there and noticed something lying on the rug. It was a bunch of cut up pieces of paper. They were everywhere and so many people kept walking past them, without even thinking to pick them up. I was sitting there just thinking whether I should pick them up. And, then I thought what a nice thing to do for the janitors, so they didn’t have to pick the mess up. So, I helped them out and put all the messy pieces in the garbage can. I felt like it was the least I could do for the people who work so hard for our school. Doing this for them was one less thing that they had to worry about.

Act 19: Together For Her

A few days ago, something very tragic happened to one of the players on my basketball team. She wasn’t at basketball or school the one day, and we all wondered. After basketball practice that day, my coach told us about the very sad situation. One of the girls’ older sister was in the hospital. The next day after practice, we found out that she passed away. We were all in shock because we couldn’t imagine what she is going through, losing a sibling so suddenly. We all sent out our thoughts and prayers with signing a card to the family. Also, we will be getting flowers to give to the family, showing that we are here for them. We have preached all year that we always stick together as a team, no matter what. In this situation, we let our teammate know that we had her back through it all. She isn’t in this alone.

Act 18: The Big Basketball Game

Basketball is one off the sports that my family is into. My two sisters an di have been playing the sport since we were little. At St. John the Baptist School, our rivals were Our Lady of Blessed Sacrament and still are. Yesterday, Anne and I both had basketball games. And, of course, one of the biggest games for both of us were on the same day. The places where we were playing were at least 40 minutes away from each other. Anne was playing in the St. Mary’s tournament against OLBS and I was playing at Tonawanda. I knew this was going to be a hard decision for my parents to choose which place they would go. However, I helped to make their decision easier. I told them both to go to Anne’s games because she is in 8th grade and it would be the last time ever that they could see a Kocher play against the rival, OLBS. They appreciated that a lot. However, my mom chose to come to my game and just keep receiving updates from my dad.

Act 17: Door Holding #2

Last Friday, my mom and I had some running around to do. We had to go to Target, Wegmans, and to go get our hair cut. We had a lot to do and a lot to get. It was also around dinner time, and both of us were getting very hungry. My mom knows how much I love to go out to eat. She surprised me and had me guess where we were going to go eat. We were just about to pass the Olive Tree, so I figured that it was the place! And, it was! We parked the car and headed into the restaurant. In the front, there was a man dropping an older woman off. He was then helping her walk toward the door. Before they got to the door, I went to it and opened it so that they didn’t have to try and open it, risking falling on the slippery sidewalk. They appreciated my kind act!

Act 16: Snowy Evening

It was quite snowy last weekend. It was snowing so calmly Saturday night and it was very relaxing. Saturday night, my parents were going to a beer blast to support the EMW travel softball team. Before they left, they saw that my sister and I were so comfortable lying on the couch. They figured that nothing was going to get done around the house. They saw that we didn’t have a lot of motivation to do much. Little did they know, I had a plan in mind! Once they left, I told Anne my idea right away. The driveway was full of snow. Lindsey’s car had snow all over it, and the turn-around was covered. We got our gloves, jackets, and shovels, and we went to shovel everything. After our hard work, we went back inside and watched Pitch Perfect for the rest of the night. When our parents got home, they were so surprised and grateful. They said that they would’ve never thought that we were going to do that on that night. They thought that they were pulling into the wrong driveway at first. It was a great way to end the night!
